Jonathan demonstrated a set build in style of Ori gersht - falling pomegranates and hanging cabbage
Learnt lighting techniques such as;
Edge Transfer (Applies to all types of Photography)
This defines the transition from the lit area to the unlit one, smooth in the ease of most soft boxes and sharp in the case of small reflectors and spots.
Coverage; defines how the subject is illuminated when the light is aimed directly at it. The coverage can be totally even or it may show a graduation or there may be a 'centre weight' or central 'hot spot'.
Shadow Definition; defines the sharpness of the shadow. It also defines any substantial difference in the shadows produced when the subject is close to the background and when the subject is further away.
Shadow Contrast; defines the density of the shadow from pure black to barely perceptible
(Embracing the dark arts)
- Distance between light+subject
By analysing the above set build, we were then able to go in pairs and construct our own and use props from our bags.
From our set we are able to demonstrate and illustrate
the relationship between:
- Light
- Subject
- Background
Task 1 - hard light
1) Take first image with the light coming in the same direction of the camera
'FRONT LIGHT'
2) Take second image with the light coming from the side of your object
'SIDE LIGHT'
(The bigger the soft box - the softer the light)
